St. Simons Island Lighthouse

Today we went to the St. Simons Lighthouse. The wind was too high, so we were only able to go to the top, but not outside.

This is the picture out the window, we were only able to see in one direction. There were 126 steps on this one, so not too bad, but two lighthouses in one day, your legs stop working right.

We also got to so to the Maritime Museum, it's a lovely building. The boys all tried knot tying. and all tried on sailor hats weather they wanted to or not.

This is the beach in front of the Maritime Museum, You can see by the waves how windy it was today.

Cockspur Lighthouse, GA

We drove down a private drive and I walked to a small beach to get this shot of the Cockspur lighthouse. It just stands out in the water alone.

We drove down to Brunswick, once we got our room booked, we drove around and finally stopped to eat at Spanky's.

Tybee Island, Tybee Lighthouse

Today we were able to get to the lighthouse and go to the top. It's 178 steps to the top. This is the highest lighthouse we have been up yet.http://www.tybeelighthouse.org/. It was 30 knots on land and it was three times as fast up at the top. If the wind had picked up by 5 knots they would have closed off the top. Richard and Cory loved it, they were messing around, letting the wind hold them up. The views are always amazing from the top of lighthouses. I've only been to about half a dozen, but still always great.

Look close you can see Cory with his hands around his dad's neck, this was the third take of this picture and I missed that.

This is the museum that can be seen from the lighthouse, it was once much larger, now part of it is a personal home, and night club.

as we were leaving the sky turned dark, it made for a nice picture though.

view of the top of the barracks, the walls were 25 ft thick

Fort Pulaski

Our next stop was Fort Pulaski. Another beautiful fort that I took tons of pictures of. Here is a view of the lighthouse from the top of the fort.

We were able to see a musket demo while visiting.

This little guy was hanging out in the moat as we were leaving.

Fort Jackson

First thing today we drove out to Fort Jackson. This red building was the old depot from Tybee.
The fort was beautiful, I took many pictures, not all of which I put on here, I'm afraid all of them would bore some people.
